What does Saracen Fire Protection do?

We’re a fire and security company with over 30 years of experience, based in Tamworth (near Birmingham). We install, maintain, and service fire alarms, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, intruder alarms, CCTV, and door access control systems. We also carry out fire risk assessments and deliver fire safety training. In short, we handle everything fire and security for your business, and do it proactively, so problems are caught before they become crises.

What services do you NOT offer?

We focus purely on commercial fire protection and security, so we don’t cover domestic/residential properties, structural fire engineering, or building regulation sign-off. If you’re unsure whether your needs fall within our scope, just give us a call, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

What areas do you cover?

Our head office is in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and we serve clients across the whole of the UK. We’re particularly active across the Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, and Derby, but regularly work with businesses further afield. Distance is not a barrier.

Do you work with all types of businesses?

Yes. We work with a wide range of sectors, including offices, warehouses, retail, hospitality, healthcare, schools, landlords, construction sites, and more. Whether you’re a sole trader in a small unit or a multi-site national business, we can tailor a package to suit you.

Can you install new systems, or do you only maintain existing ones?

Both. We design, supply, and install new fire alarm, security, emergency lighting and access control systems from scratch. We also take over servicing and maintenance of systems installed by other companies, you don’t need to have bought from us originally.

What is a BAFE registration, and why does it matter?

BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) is the independent registration scheme for fire protection companies in the UK. Being BAFE-registered means we’ve been independently assessed and meet the required standards for quality and competence. For you, it means peace of mind, and it’s often a requirement for insurance purposes.

How quickly can you respond if there's a problem?

Contracted clients benefit from our 24/7 emergency line. For new enquiries and non-emergency servicing, we aim to respond promptly and can usually get to you quickly, especially across the Midlands. Contact us to discuss response time expectations for your specific location and needs.

How do I know if my premises are legally compliant?

The best starting point is a site survey. We’ll assess your current setup, identify any gaps, and give you clear, honest advice on what you legally need to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. No jargon, no hard sell, just a straightforward picture of where you stand.

Can I get a quote online?

We prefer to provide accurate, tailored quotes rather than ballpark figures; fire and security needs vary a lot depending on the size, layout, and use of your premises. Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance plans that keep you ahead of your compliance schedules, covering fire alarm servicing, extinguisher checks, emergency lighting tests, and more. This means you never miss a deadline, and we proactively flag anything that needs attention before it becomes an issue.

I see you're based in Birmingham, do you only cover the Midlands?

We have our head office in Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth, but we travel all over the country, so distance is really no problem.

Do I need to have a risk assessment?

If you employ 5 or more employees, you will need a risk assessment.

I have fire and security measures in place. Do I need them checked?

Yes, you will need them checked. Your fire alarms need checking twice a year, and your fire extinguishers and emergency lighting need checking annually. Your fire training needs to be refreshed annually as well.

We’re only a small company. Do we need fire training?

If you have fire extinguishers, you need to provide fire training. You should also appoint at least one competent person.

I already have fire extinguishers put in by a different company. Can I use anyone else now?

Yes, you can. It is up to you who you choose to work with.

You will need a site survey to be fully aware of your legal responsibilities. Our site surveys are free of charge and will provide you with all the information you need to start a new business.

Do I need a fire risk assessment for my premises?

Yes, if you are a business owner, landlord, or responsible person, UK law (The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) requires you to carry out regular fire risk assessments. We can assist with this to ensure your site remains fully compliant.

How often do fire alarms and extinguishers need to be serviced?

Fire alarms should be tested weekly and serviced by professionals at least every 6 months. Fire extinguishers require annual servicing. Our proactive maintenance plans keep you ahead of deadlines and ensure everything is in top condition.

How often should fire alarms be serviced?

Fire alarms should be serviced by a qualified professional at least every six months, in line with British Standard BS 5839. Regular maintenance ensures your system is fully operational, compliant, and ready to protect your premises in an emergency.

Are your systems certified and compliant?

Absolutely. All our systems and services are delivered to current British Standards. As BAFE-registered and FIA members, we ensure everything meets the required safety and performance criteria.

Do you offer out-of-hours support?

Yes, we provide a 24/7 emergency line for contracted clients. Fires and faults don’t stick to office hours – and neither do we.
