Fire Training
Employers must provide appropriate information, instruction and training to employees, during their normal working hours, about the fire precautions and the fire equipment in the workplace.
This training should take place when they start working for you (as part of their induction) and also from time to time throughout the time they are employed by you. It is part of an employer’s duty of care to provide fire safety training.
All members of staff should receive Basic Fire Awareness Training and each company/organisation should have designated fire wardens.
This training should be refreshed annually. If you think your fire training is out of date get in touch now.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fire Safety Training
What fire safety training courses do you offer?
Saracen Fire Protection offer a range of fire safety training courses, including fire safety staff training, fire marshal training and fire warden training. Each course is tailored to the appropriate level of responsibility, from general staff awareness through to those with designated fire safety roles within your organisation.
Who should attend fire safety staff training?
Fire safety staff training is suitable for all employees, regardless of role. It provides general awareness of fire hazards, what to do in the event of a fire, safe evacuation procedures and the correct use of fire-fighting equipment. Many businesses use this as part of their induction programme or annual refresher training.
Who needs to complete fire marshal or fire warden training?
Any member of staff who has been given a designated fire safety role within your workplace should complete fire marshal or fire warden training. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to appoint competent persons to assist with fire safety measures, and completing a formal training course demonstrates that competency.
How often should fire safety training be refreshed?
It is generally recommended that fire safety training is refreshed annually, or whenever there are significant changes to your premises, occupancy, layout or staff. Fire marshal and warden training should also be refreshed regularly to ensure designated staff remain confident and up to date.
Is fire safety training a legal requirement?
Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers are required to ensure that all employees receive appropriate fire safety instruction and training. This includes information about fire risks, evacuation procedures and the location and use of fire-fighting equipment.
Can training be delivered at our premises?
Yes. Saracen Fire Protection can deliver fire safety training at your site. On-site training has the advantage of allowing the course to be tailored to your specific premises, evacuation routes and fire procedures.
First Aid Training
What first aid courses do you offer?
Saracen Fire Protection offer two first aid training courses: a one-day Basic First Aid course for general staff, and a three-day First Aid at Work course for those requiring full first aid qualification.
What does the one-day basic first aid course cover?
The one-day course is designed to give employees a solid foundation in emergency first aid. It typically covers CPR and the use of an AED, dealing with an unconscious casualty, choking, bleeding, burns and scalds, and recognising and responding to common medical emergencies. It is suitable for lower-risk workplaces or as a general awareness course for all staff.
What does the three-day first aid course cover?
The three-day First Aid at Work course provides a more comprehensive qualification and covers all of the topics in the one-day course plus additional subjects including fractures and dislocations, eye injuries, anaphylaxis, diabetes, asthma, seizures, suspected spinal injuries and detailed casualty assessment. It is designed for those appointed as a first aider in the workplace.
Who should attend the three-day first aid course?
The three-day First Aid at Work course is aimed at employees who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as a designated first aider within their organisation. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that all workplaces have an appropriate number of trained first aiders based on staff numbers, nature of work and level of risk.
Is first aid training a legal requirement?
Yes. Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employers are required to make adequate first aid provision for their employees. This includes appointing a sufficient number of trained first aiders and ensuring that appropriate first aid equipment and facilities are available.
How long is a first aid at work certificate valid for?
A First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years. Requalification training should be completed before the certificate expires to ensure continued compliance.
Can first aid training be delivered at our premises?
Yes. Both the one-day and three-day courses can be delivered at your site, which can be more convenient for larger groups and allows training to be scheduled around your operational requirements.
Can fire safety and first aid training be combined?
Yes. Saracen Fire Protection offer both fire safety and first aid training, so it is straightforward to arrange combined training days or programmes for your team. This can be a cost-effective way of meeting multiple compliance requirements at once. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
